About Tina
Tina is a prolific artist with her hands in many different aspects of the paper, gift, craft and design industies. Born in southern Africa, and brought up in an eclectic family of vibrant souls, Tina seems to blend all aspects of her history and life into one unique vision! Although she seems to adapt her art for many unique perspectives from the soft beautiful watercolor illustration she creates for Cid Pear; to vibrant color and emmensely strong design for textiles. Even so, there seems to be a Tina-esque flavor all of her own. See for yourself.
Born in the 1960s in Southern Africa rich with culture from both the beautiful local environment and within her multi-cultural family of English and Mediterranean heritage. Moving with her immediate family in early 1982 from Africa to Canada, Tina and her family encountered a new culture and change. Coming from an enormously talented entrepreneurial extended family, Tina pursued business and economics in college and landed a position in global advertising obtaining a solid background in sales and marketing for high profile clients within a fast-paced corporate environment. Marrying and moving with her American husband to the mid-west, Tina again adapted to her new environment and managed a successful sales and marketing career. Several years later children and tiny infant twins forced Givens to stop and ground her focus to her family. Not stopping for long, Tina started painting and nurturing her first love of creating and sewing. Refinding her inner childhood creativity, Tina created her first stationery collection she named Cid Pear.
The stationery collection launched in 2004 in the basement of the NY Javits Center at the National Stationery Show. A last minute booth provided a unique shaped booth with a large pillar structure in the center of the floor. Tina, her husband and a neighborhood friend recut the curtains prepared for the booth on the spot, covered the pillar beautifully and even cut up the pink flokati rug to custom fit the L-shaped booth. The stationery was a hit and Cid Pear blasted worldwide onto the market within 3 busy days. A unique look, use of textured ivory papers and Tina's signature sophisticated yet whimsical hand, created a busy response and reaction to the collection.
Since, Tina has been creating for other companies too with licensed partnerships for fabrics, paper products, scrapbooking, clothing and Christmas ornaments. Yet Cid Pear has always been the foundation of all of it, with a passion to bring her taste to you and enjoying the manufacturing process of paper and apparel products. Dabbling into some unusual jewelry design, Tina is also drawn irresistibly to vintage and ancient pieces for use within her work. She personally creates unusual jewelry for her friends and family, sews for herself, her daughter and the house. A vast collection of vintage stones, filligree, buttons and fabrics sit on shelves in her studio for inspiration and play within her busy schedule!
Multifaceted with the unusual ability to create and adapt her art and design to several unique mediums and applications. Her watercolor art is striking and recognizable, detailed with a combination of vintage, fantasy, cultural and effervescent playfulness.
